Borrowing the title from one of my brother's cd's......because this is one of those "where we are now" posts~~it all started with a trip to Tractor Supply to get pricing on fence posts and wire.....but then I saw these:
We left the store that day without those chicks, but two days later, when we went back to buy the posts and wire...I came home with six of the cuties. They began their life in our world in a box in our mudroom....being stared at by very curious canines...
They soon moved from cardboard box to a rabbits crate and still were watched by a very curious canine.....
They grew rapidly and moved from the rabbits crate to the curious canine's crate...
Work began on the coop and play yard for the cuties.....first we found a pleasant spot protected from the high winds we get around here....
then once again we took from the prior inhabitants to house the new inhabitants...we began with the old dog pen that was given to us and never used...and placed the rabbit's hutch inside of that....
then began the job of wrapping the dog pen with chicken wire and hardware cloth...
work that included bloody hands for those of us who find it difficult to work with gloves on ever since a broken arm a few years ago caused dexterity to fade into memory....
then it was time to introduce the chicks to their new home and their new furnishings......
for chickens like to sit on things don't you know....and as always, the curious canine watched....
Although she did take time out occasionally to play a little by herself amid the mess her humans were making of the yard while they diligently made safe the new coop....
A stairway to heaven...uhm, the coop required some practice for the new occupants, but it didn't take long for them to make their way up and down it...
And Mr. Rabbit didn't seem to mind sharing his prior home with the chicks...he just settled right on in....
We cut off the legs of the old hutch, added doors and hung decorations on the outside to welcome our friends and display antiquities not quite suitable for the human house...
hung water and feed dishes from bungee cords and hooks
And then proceeded to photograph our feathered friends in their new home....only to find that chicken photography is not that easy...seems I keep getting just the backside of them most of the time.....
And that is why this photo could be interpreted as a fitting end for this post.....as could this one I suppose....
The End~~
Very cute post!
ReplyDeleteWe end up moving our chicks around constantly, too!

What a cute story! Don't you love how some things just "happen to happen"...and looking back, you're so glad that they did?!

Haha!! You are too funny! I would love to have chickens. Since we don't live in the country....yet.... my husband is totally against it. I may try to sneak a few in anyway... they are so cute and legal in city limits unless we are using them for meat. Thanks for this post!! :)
ReplyDeleteLove this post...we have "acquired" many an animal this way! It's just so hard to resist, isn't it??
