Quote of the Day

I thought this may be appropriate considering that the media are comparing President Elect Obama to President Abraham Lincoln......

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and independence.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

- Correction - "The Ten Cannots" published in 1916 by William J. H. Boetcker, Presbyterian minister - republished in 1942 by the Committee for Constitutional Government. in a pamphlet titled "Lincoln On Limitations" - the pamplet has resulted in these being misattributed to Lincoln by many.....but the truths are evident and should be valued as much today as in 1916 and 1942.

  1. Not only is that an overly simplistic characterization, it's also not a quote by President Lincoln.

"These words are often attributed to Abraham Lincoln, but according to the book They Never Said it: A Book of Fake Quotes, Misquotes, & Misleading Attributions, they are not from Lincoln.

The quotes were published in 1942 by William J. H. Boetcker, a Presbyterian minister. He released a pamphlet titled Lincoln On Limitations, which did include a Lincoln quote, but also added 10 statements written by Boetcker himself."

  2. Thanks Jason for the correction...

Simplistic the quote(s) may be, but the truth is in there....if you increase the amount of costs to employ, the employer decreases the amount of employees.
