Change we need?

It's no secret that I am the child of a soldier; I am also the sister of a soldier and the sister in law of a soldier who has served in Afghanistan and is currently serving in Iraq. It should come as no surprise then that I am furious over President Obama's proposal to shift health care from a public responsibility to a private one. It matters not to me that he has now backed off from this proposal due to the military's outcry regarding it, it matters only that he has once again shown his ability to say anything - do anything to achieve his own goals - bugger those it hurts.

President Obama courted and wooed the veterans of this country with promises to fully fund the Veterans Administration. Did he ever once let them know that he had plans to save a measly 540 million dollars each year by making them obtain private insurance which would then be billed for their medical care if they happened to have been wounded in their service of this country? If he had, do you think veterans and active military would have voted for him? Or do you think that the children and spouses of those vets and active duty soldiers would have voted for him? Not bloody likely.

The following is copied directly from a website created during the presidential campaign:

Barack Obama will restore our sacred trust with our nation's veterans:Obama and Biden are committed to creating a 21st Century Department of Veterans' Affairs that provides the care and benefits our nation's veterans deserve.

Help returning service members:Obama and Biden will improve the quality of health care for veterans, rebuild the VA's broken benefits system, and combat homelessness among veterans.

Improve mental health treatment:Obama and Biden will improve mental health treatment for troops and veterans suffering from combat-related psychological injuries.

Yet during his first 100 days in office, he proposed to force private insurance companies to pay for the medical care of soldiers who have lost limbs or eyes or mental capacity. Change we need?

It is obvious to me that we all need to be extremely vigilant under this administration; campaign promises are being broken repeatedly including promises on ethics and transparency(tax cheats and lobbyists (or spouses) nominated for cabinet positions, passage on a TARP plan that no one read before making it law despite promises of transparency.

This is a house blog with a requirement that 70% of posts be house related. Therefore, I have created a third blog to deal with political postings. Let this post serve as notice of my intent to be vigilant regarding this man who has been elected to lead us into change. It is time folks....it is past time that we begin to pay attention to those who are elected to positions of political power in this country.

Update: On March 24 2009, a bill was introduced by the House of Representatives - H. Res. 284 - "Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that all Americans should participate in a moment of silence to reflect upon the service and sacrifice of members of the United States Armed Forces both at home and abroad."

I'm sure our troops would appreciate this especially after their Commander and Chief expressed a desire to leave them hanging on their medical care should they lose a leg, or an eye, or suffered a massive brain injury. The following bill is more like what I want to see..........

March 19, 2009 Cliff Stearns R Florida H. RES. 264 Expressing the opposition of the House of Representatives to any proposal intended to alter current law to allow the Department of Veterans Affairs to bill third-party insurers of veterans who are being treated for service-connected disabilities or injuries. Whereas section 1729 of title 38, United States Code, states that the Department of Veterans Affairs may only recover costs from a veteran’s private insurer for treatment of a non-service-connected disability;

Track the bills yourself

  1. Sometimes I think our forefathers, were they to return and could see what's going on in Washington and in our country...might be more ashamed of US than the POLITICIANS. This particular proposal by Obama has made me madder than almost anything else. HOW DARE HE!?! Did he actually THINK this would go over with the American people? It's astounding and I agree with you 100%.

  3. Dare I say it? "Don't blame me. I voted for the American" What were people in this country thinking? When I saw my first "Veterans for Obama" sign last year, I physically became ill.

  4. Unfortunately those veterans believed the lies; one can only hope that they will now become active and vigilant in stopping the agenda of the man they helped elect. Thanks for posting!
